Lads, the sun is finally out. Yeorw. Gerrup, etc. And with the May bank holiday approaching imminently, you might want to make some plans if you haven’t already. We propose you grab some mates, and head towards the coast.
If you can’t be arsed packing a picnic, why not get your food delivered? Here are our seaside top picks on Just Eat.
Loved by the locals, Grá Bia Gastro Truck is at the Pickardstown Service Station, only a mere 10 minutes away from the beach. They’re known for their smash burgers, and cater to vegans, but if you want to live out your ultimate hot girl summer fantasy, get the chicken caesar salad, pair it with a crispy diet drink of your choice, and order a side of fries. Tell us that’s not the perfect idea for a meal you can takeaway and eat in the sun.
Just 15 minutes from Brittas Bay is La Locandina, an Italian joint in Wicklow town. If you’re looking for a lighter seaside bite, go for an antipasto board, or their crostino with mortadella, Bufala PDO and pistachio. Try their truffle ice cream if you’re brave enough. If you’re looking for a bigger feed, get a couple of pizzas to share – the perfect hand held meal. Order them to go here.
There ain’t nothing more classic than fish and chips by the sea, and if you’re not going to Burdock’s while you’re in Howth, you’re doing something wrong. The perfect day in Howth is as follows: Start with the cliff walk. This will allow you to take in the views, and get that ticker beating. Post walk, cool down with a quick dip in the sea to reset your chakras (or whatever it does). By then you’ll be starving, so you’re gonna want to order a glorious portion of smoked cod and chips at Burdock’s to go, to be absolutely inhaled by the pier. Tell us that’s not the way to do Howth.
This old school family run Italian restaurant in Westport has their full menu online for delivery. That includes pizzas, pastas, veal escalope, or even a 12oz steak. Plus, their full wine and beer list is available for delivery – so it’s a no brainer really.
It’s not a secret, we’re big fans of Burger Boy down in Bray. Rian and the lads are the real deal. Their shortrib burgers come from FX Buckley who makes a specific meat blend for them. Seared and smashed on a 250 degree grill, these puppies give Dash a run for their money. Order one of these bad boys to go, head towards the water, and prepare to reach Nirvana.
As we all know, the weather in Ireland is bipolar, so if you are having a slightly chillier than expected day at the beach, warm those loins with Kingfisher Indian in Cobh. Get a spicy dish like the prawn vindaloo into ye while you take in the fresh sea air. There are lots of little spots to perch along the coast. Food with a view amirite? Order from here.
The gorgie little seaside town of Dungarvan has lots of dining options, but when the sun is out, you’re gonna want to be eating outside. And for those particularly hot days, nothing too heavy please. I’m sweating. Sushi is a slept on seaside snack. It ticks the fish box, it’s easy to transport, and it enters into the realm of “picky bits”. Fuji Ramen Sushi even do platters to go so you don’t need to think about it.
If Greystones is your sunny seaside destination, use the opportunity to eat Ghai Sunil’s wonderful grub, because as you may be aware, it is literally impossible to get a table at Pickle. His Keema Pao is on our death row menu, but really you can’t go wrong with anything on his menus. Order here.
