Unless you’ve had your head buried in the sand (maybe you’ve been spending all your time at the beach?), you’ll know that the Galway International Arts Festival is back, running from 14–27 July. For two glorious weeks, Galway is buzzing with music, comedy, theatre, opera, talks, and straight up good times.
And with so much to do and see, a cheeky delivery to the park while you’re between gigs, or to your abode while you’re getting ready and have no time to miss out on anything, is, let’s be honest, probably the way things are going to go down.
Thankfully, some of Galway’s best spots are available on Just Eat, meaning you can grab a proper feed, recharge, and get straight back to the festivities.
Here are six of our favourites.
Tex-mex is the ultimate party food so if you’re heading to any of the festivities with your mates, start as you mean to go on by ordering a rake of tacos to the gaff, shake up a few cheeky margs to fuel up in style (as they say), before heading out for the evening.
Char’s Choice: BBQ Beef Tacos
It’s the end of the evening, you’ve walked 20,000 steps, and hunger has seriously set in. Continue the celebrations with good food. Benny’s knows how to have a good time. They even warn you not to wear white on their website, which is grand, you’ll most likely be in your jammies when it arrives. Smash burgers, fried chicken, and loaded fries.. What a way to end the day.
Char’s Choice: The Hot Wan
It’s hot, you’re picnicking, and you need something more in the line of a picky bits dinner. Sushi is perfect for this and well as being great for groups. Osaka offers everything from fresh sushi and crispy katsu curries to Korean BBQ, making it one of Galway’s most varied takeaway options. Grab a picnic blanket, park yourself in the sun, and chow down on a rake of sashimi while you’re waiting for the next event to start.
Char’s Choice: Nami Moriawase (4 pieces of Sashimi, 4 pieces of Nigiri, 8 pieces of Norimaki and Miso Soup)
If you’re planning on spending the whole day bouncing between venues, you’re going to need something substantial in yizzers bellies before heading out for the day. Indian food is a good option for this – filling, comforting, and with all the food groups to sort you out. Around since 1994, Kashmir has been a Galway staple now for over 30 years, so you know it’s going to be good.
Char’s Choice: Goan Seafood Curry
Meltd has become a Galway favourite thanks to its outrageously good toasties, and homemade sweet treats. The whole place screams comfort food, with plenty of options, even the pickiest of eaters will find something here. Honestly, you can’t bate a good toastie. Their meal deal includes any sambo, a drink and a dessert for €19.50, meaning no menu FOMO. Order this for a festive picnic in the sun.
Char’s Choice: Chopped Cheese (Braised beef mince, cheese, pickles, crispy onion, shredded lettuce, chipotle mayo).
A Galway institution, it’s no wonder the Supermacs county have levelled up their burger game. So if you’re visiting Galway for the Arts Festival, it’s a bit of a right of passage to hit up Handsome Burger. Burgers are the perfect festival meal – handheld, delicious, and filling.
Char’s Choice: The Smash Patty
