It’s Valentine’s Day week, and you best all be feeling properly sexy by now.
We’ve been thinking of all the sensual and sultry spots around Dublin to get you in the mood—whether you’re going on a first date, a 100th date, or taking yourself out for some quality time, because that’s also important. Here’s a list of our five favourite, sex-appeal-laden bars and restaurants that are sure to make your Valentine’s Day (or any day) hot as hell.
The Irish have humour, resilience, and ploughing, but the French have ‘sexy’. Chez Max is a little slice of the world’s most romantic city, Paris, right in the heart of arguably the least romantic one—Dublin. There is nothing more delicious than staring into the eyes of your beau du jour over a few steaming bowls of soupe du jour. The sensual candles, the twinkling fairy lights, the rich French dishes, and the flowing wine—it’s a recipe for romance.
It’s small, and you know what that means—squeezing together and snuggling up into each other in the glow of the warm neon signage. They have small plates, perfect for grazing your hand against your lover’s in a coy, demure fashion as you share a spread of stracciatella and focaccia. They have plenty of luscious wines to choose from, and they also pride themselves on serving coffee until late, so you’ll have plenty of energy for after… wink wink.
Trocadero is like stepping back in time. It’s reminiscent of that scene from Goodfellas when Ray Liotta brings the shrink from The Sopranos through a club in that famous single tracking shot. It was a real power move and very swoon-inducing despite him being a dangerous career criminal. Bring your wife or goomar here to really impress them. White linen, warm lighting, and classically date-worthy dishes make this a comforting and timelessly romantic spot. Plus, you might spot a sexy celebrity—many have dined here, like John Malkovich or Tim Burton!
If you don’t think eating in front of your conquest is sexy, then perhaps just a few posh cocktails at 1661 are in order. It’s dark, but not too dark, and it’s a tantalising immersive drinking journey that’s far more than just a few scoops with your little bit of crumpet. The curation and execution of the divine menu is a delicious foreplay for the mind and tastebuds. Perfect for a pre-dinner tipple or a late-night rendezvous shrouded in sexy, moody mystery.
Allta, the restaurant, is notoriously hard to get a reservation for, but Allta Bar is walk-in friendly so you’ll never leave your date disappointed. There are a few sexy notes here designed to send signals straight to your pleasure centres. The cocktails are works of art. The food, delicious. Get some oysters. They’re an aphrodisiac, after all. Nothing is sexier than slurping down those little beauties. But the real sex appeal here comes from the music, setting, and all-round vibe. It’s like a jazzy Tokyo listening bar meets a swinging ’60s house party. The seating is varied and intimate, with different configurations designed to keep things interesting—letting you work your way around a whole new series of conversational (and physical) positions. Melt into the furniture—and into the arms of your dearest.
