Grab your broom, wand, flying bubbles, and pointy hats because Wicked is here, and we’ve completely lost the run of ourselves.
Wicked is a cultural phenomenon, shaking us all to our very core. We’re holding space with lyrics from “Defying Gravity” and have taken our knowledge of the Dublin food and drink scene to curate a list of Elphaba and Glinda-coded spots where each of the gals would feel at home if they ever came to Dublin all the way from Oz.
The aesthetics here are 100% Glinda-coded—everything is sweet, just like her. It’s immensely ‘popular‘, and the cloud theme will have us all flying high, defying gravity. Glorious mounds of gelato are a feast for the eyes, while freshly cooked crêpes and waffles tantalise your other senses, filling the space with sweet aromas. Their coffee is tasty too, so have a few cups, and you’ll be buzzing with as much energy and pep as the Good Witch herself.
Glinda is a Good-Time Gal, and she and her gang would adore dressing up in their pinkest glad rags for some bottles brunch at this joint. Since Glinda prefers to travel in a clear bubble, it only makes sense that she’d sip from a disco ball cocktail here, after all, they’re both spheres you see. These giant, sparkling cocktails are meant to be shared, but let’s be honest—Glinda, Shenshen, and Pfanne would likely have one each.
Wilde is utterly stunning, with its terrace feeling as if you’re dining in a magical field of wildflowers, (not the kind that will put the whole gang to sleep). Glinda would feel right at home here—it’s enchanting, elegant, and luxurious, perfectly suiting her high standards. The decor at Wilde actually strikes a wonderful balance between the two aesthetics with light, feminine florals and a lush display of greenery with deep green leather accents. Meaning this could be an ideal spot for the old friends to enjoy lunch together and catch up.
This spot has Glinda written all over it. Everything is perfectly pink, from the decor to the menu items, creating an atmosphere as vibrant and charming as Glinda herself. There’s no shortage of pink potions to enjoy, and Glinda can even indulge in a pink afternoon tea if she fancies.
The tale of Darkey Kelly mirrors Elphaba’s. The enduring legend paints her as a witch accused of infanticide and Satanic rituals, burned at the stake for her supernatural crimes. However, it’s more likely that her execution was a result of suspicion surrounding her being a very much earthly serial killer. The pub bearing her name is the perfect spot for Elphaba to reflect on this story and her own. After all, she knows all too well what it’s like to be judged and villainized.
A dark and mysterious cocktail bar, this is where Elphaba can soak up some alchemist vibes. She and her flying monkeys would have a grand old time sipping cocktails here. They even serve a classic Emerald cocktail—ideal for toasting the Wizard’s downfall and plotting her next great act of rebellion.
Glas means green—simple as that. The green exterior of this restaurant makes it a no-brainer for the green queen of witchcraft. This fully meat-free eatery would also appeal to Elphaba as an animal lover and advocate for the flying monkeys. Its forward-thinking ethos and relaxed atmosphere make it the perfect spot for her to unwind over an excellent vegetarian and fully gluten-free meal. I’m not sure if Elphaba is intolerant to gluten or just water, though.
Again, thinking green, Fidelity is going to draw Elphaba in with the emerald green upholstery and accented décor. This is where Elphaba would want to come and enjoy some funky beats while sipping on a bright green elixir, i.e., the famous basil margarita. It’s an ideal spot for a date night with a scarecrow boyfriend or perfect for a solo evening, reading The Grimmerie at the bar.
