We have been teaming up with our friends at Just Eat to spotlight the food spots we genuinely rate at Char. Nagomi at Monkstown is our latest obsession.
Lately I’ve been thinking about what I actually want to eat now that we are slowly exiting what felt like perpetual darkness and bad vibes. Hot pho and spicy curries have been my usual takeaway rotation for the past couple of months. I love them, but lately I’ve been craving something lighter
But a new contender has entered the rotation: Nagomi. This Japanese restaurant has three things in mind that it wants you to feel. Calm, balanced and ready to settle in for a relaxed evening when cooking feels like too much effort. They are also now available on Just Eat, so if you haven’t tried it yet here’s the order I’d put in to get you started.

The Salmon Lover €17.95 is what I would pick as an entry point. They give you four pieces of sashimi, four pieces of nigiri as well as salmon and avocado rolls. Since the salmon doesn’t hide behind any sauce, you can really taste how clean and balanced it is. The rice is no slouch either and holds together without being heavy. As platters go, this is truly the way to start at Nagomi.
Sharing is caring as they say and if you have more than one in your crowd, the Nagomi Sushi platter €19.95 should be enough to satisfy everyone in the vicinity. They load up your plate with the freshest salmon, tuna, eel and prawns. Alongside some lightly fried and crispy tempura. This generous platter should bring the first scene to a close and lead us into scene two. The hot stuff.

When you find yourself at a place like this, order gyoza. Always add gyoza. The Chicken Gyoza €8.95 arrives with a crisp base. That first crackle they make when they hit the plate tells you everything you need to know. It’s filled with succulent chicken and vegetables and is paired with their own gyoza dip. The whole package is lightly steamed, so expect a soft and chewy texture at the top.
The Pork Gyoza €8.95 follows the same logic, so I won’t run my mouth on it too much. All you need to know is that this is equally tasty and is worth adding to the collection. Now, if for some bizarre reason you are still hungry after all that, the next section is more than enough to do the job and really bring this order to a sufficient finish.

For those of you who live life to the max, the Chicken Teriyaki €14.95 is your match made in food heaven. Juicy chicken and seasonal vegetables coated in a glossy teriyaki sauce that quietly hijack your taste buds.
Alternatively, the Salmon Teriyaki €14.95 packs a much lighter punch if you’re looking for something with a bit more restraint without losing those delicious flavours. Both options aim to please your stomach, but not leave you hunched over on the floor.
As the evenings get brighter and lighter meals start to feel more appealing, spots like Nagomi will really start to shine and make all the difference.
If the sharp cuts of fish, balanced sauces and generous sushi platters haven’t convinced you yet, the menu probably will. Just don’t be surprised when your mates start posting their Nagomi orders on instagram and you realise you should’ve listened.
We’ve been working with Just Eat to spotlight places we genuinely rate, and Nagomi in Monkstown firmly lands on that list. Whether you decide to visit the restaurant or decide to order in. We can promise you one thing. This place is,quite simply, tasty as hell.
