Time Out Magazine has once again honoured a Dublin neighbourhood on one of its cool lists. That’s right – Inchicore is officially the 25th coolest neighbourhood in the whole wide world. Thanks to its perfect blend of walkability, character, and proximity to cultural and historic gems, it’s earned a spot on the coveted list. And Inchicore is in some pretty good company, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Flatbush in Brooklyn, East Hollywood, and the number one spot, Notre-Dame-du-Mont in France. But in our humble opinion – none of them come close to that special ‘Inchy’ charm!
According to Time Out, Inchicore perfectly represents Dublin’s unique old-school charm mixed with a very modern energy. With everything Inchicore has to offer, coupled with its proximity to some of Dublin’s best sights, like Kilmainham Gaol and the Phoenix Park, it’s the perfect base to explore Dublin and makes for a wonderful day out.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the best food and drink spots in Inchicore to keep you fed and watered as you explore the 25th coolest neighbourhood in the world.
Any day in Inchicore needs to start with a visit to Riggers to fuel up with caffeine and sambos. This stunning little café, just a stone’s throw from Richmond Barracks, serves dishes that are as vibrant and eye-catching as its colourful exterior. But it’s not just about the looks—Riggers serves up a menu packed with flavour. All your breakfast and brunch favourites are here like shakshuka, fluffy pancakes, avocado toast, and, of course, the full Irish fry-up. Whether you’re in for a quick coffee or planning to linger over brunch, this spot has what you need to get you set up for the day.
Inchicore is a haven of local alcohol production with a brewery and a distillery in its midst. Stillgarden is crafting contemporary Irish spirits like gin and vodka. You can pop in for a visit but beyond the usual factory tour; they offer a range of experiences that are anything but standard.
You can stroll through their garden, a former patch of wasteland that has been transformed into a charming botanical paradise. Or you can book in for their afternoon tea experience, where you can satisfy your hunger for food and knowledge. You’ll learn all about the distillation process and the botanicals that flavour their spirits as you sip on four of their choice gins and follow it up with a tasty spread of cakes and sandwiches.
There are lots of perfect pubs in Inchicore, but The Glen has a special place in locals’ hearts. Right on the Kilmainham border of the area, this pub is a dream boozer. It almost feels like stepping back in time. There’s no fuss or faff – just a welcome break from the overly stylised, noisy, “cool” pubs that have oversaturated the pint market in recent years. This is the pub experience you want: sitting with your mates, chatting absolute nonsense over a few rounds of immaculate pints and crisps.
Rascals Brewery is a one-stop shop if you’re looking for drinks and some of the best pizza in town. A brewery pint experience is much more than just a few scoops—it’s a little adventure. There’s no greater pleasure than grabbing a beer flight and tasting your way through their lineup like a true craft beer connoisseur. They’ve got a full range on tap, plus a few rotating surprises to keep you on your toes. If beer isn’t your thing, no worries—they’ve got cocktails, wines, and even frozen drinks for the non-beer drinkers in your group. And don’t miss their pizzas; they’re among the best in the city.
They’re especially good after a session at the Gravity Climbing Centre next door or even after a lazy day on the sofa. Once you’ve had your fill of carbs and pints, you can sweat it out in The Hot Box Sauna, also conveniently located right next door.
Cleary’s is one of many sensational pub in the neighbourhood, but what truly sets it apart is the adjoining hole-in-the-wall taco joint that has earned a reputation as one of the most authentic and best-value Mexican eateries in the entire city. This family-run gem, owned by José Guadalupe Zamudio, brings the vibrant flavours of his homeland to Ireland, making Inchicore a spicier and more exciting place to be.
Queues often snake out of the little shop front, a testament to the popularity of Lupillo’s delicious offerings. The juxtaposition of Lupillo’s and Cleary’s perfectly encapsulates what Time Out meant when they said Inchicore represents Dublin’s unique blend of old-school charm and modern energy.
