Vigil for Brianna Ghey to be held at the Spire on Wednesday

Words: Eva O’Beirne

Trans and Intersex Pride Dublin have organised a vigil to mourn Brianna Ghey, a 16-year-old transgender girl, who was killed in what has been described as a targeted attack.

On Wednesday 15 February at 18:00, Trans and Intersex Pride Dublin will be facilitating a vigil for Brianna Ghey who was killed in a public park in Chesire on Saturday.

Two fifteen-year-olds, a boy and a girl, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Trans and Intersex Pride Dublin said on Brianna’s death: “Unfortunately, this is the consequence of a long and arduous attack on trans people & trans rights from the media, the political establishment, TERFs and more.”

“Even in her death, Brianna is not afforded peace, with The Times disgustingly updating their article on her death to include her dead name and many other media outlets failing to mention she was trans.”

Trans and Intersex Pride Dublin have requested that attendees bring flowers, signs and candles to the vigil at the Spire on Wednesday.

A GoFundMe has been set up to assist Brianna’s family with funeral costs.
