It’s official – nightclubs open, full capacity and no 8pm closing time

Words: Eva O’Beirne

The Irish Government plans to scrap most restrictions from Saturday. An official announcement from the Government is expected at 6pm this evening.

Pubs and restaurant hours will return to normal, nightclubs will re-open and the covid pass requirement will be gone for hospitality. Indoor and outdoor venues will resume to full capacity but the Government will ask for a phased return to offices and workplaces from Monday.

We’ve come a long way since nine euro meals.

There will be no limits on household visits, weddings or religious ceremonies, but the wearing of face masks in indoor settings will be required until the end of February. Digital Covid-19 certs will still be required for foreign travel. In addition, rules relating to contact tracing and isolation will also stay in place.
