Irish pop-up club builders construct space in Berlin with Nike

Words: Ciarán Howley

To coincide with the launch of Nike and Ambush’s footwear collab, Irish collective Temporary Pleasure built three spaces inspired by club culture in Berlin.

Dublin-based collective Temporary Pleasure announced on their Instagram today that they were commissioned by Nike to transform a space for its collaboration with Japanese apparel brand Ambush. VooStore in Berlin was transformed into three new spaces taking inspiration industrial, rave and Y2K aesthetics – from “from showroom to dinner to club.”

The new collection includes the Adjust Force x Ambush Summit shoe in white and black and black and ‘Psychic Purple.’ The incorporation of this shade of purple in the lighting recreates the fluorescent lighting often found in clubs alongside white neon lighting. The reconstruction was facilitated by clothing store Voo which offers a mix of luxury, street and athletic apparel.

In Dublin, Temporary Pleasure have built a name by facilitating club-building workshops for newcomers to the events industry in an effort to reclaim the community-driven component of clubbing. Founded in 2019 by a collective of architects, organisers and club creatives, the group want to make clubbing better through more fluid DIY spaces.

And while clubbing is beginning to diversify, Temporary Pleasure are advocating for purpose-built and grassroots spaces. A nightclub has not been built in Dublin since 2009 and according to the group two thirds of clubs have disappeared from the Irish capital since 2008.

The collective acknowledged that while commissioned work is a new venture, they’re hoping it will help to fund their workshops in Dublin. On August 13, the collective held their first pop-up club night at the Complex, a 12 hour club night.
