Get Lost in a Night of Dublin Rave-Tinged Ephemera

Words: Ciarán Howley

Award winning online music curators 909 Originals present an immersive exhibition, and rave, through Dublin’s hallowed techno and house clubs.

Calling all ravers! Sick of hearing your parents epic fables of rave-scapades in the 1990s? Then look no further than Analog Rhythms – an exhibition and club night recapturing the spirit of Dublin’s famous club culture. Hosted at the Bernard Shaw, witness an homage to iconic rave dens like Sides DC, the Ormond, the Asylum, Temple Theatre and System.

The event will take place across the weekend, commencing with the exhibit’s grand opening on Saturday at 18.00. Following a panel talk at 20.00, Dublin-based DJs Aoife Nic Canna, Francois and DJ Pressure will take you back to the days of acid house with DJ sets until 03.00.

Recover from your comedown on Sunday with a Record Fair from 1pm until 5pm, followed by a round of Acid House and Bingo and a screening of ‘Notes on Rave in Dublin’, a new documentary from director Redmond James, of Dublin independent newspaper Rabble.

Music history buffs will be able to pick up a copy of Throw Away, an elegiac collection of flyers and art designed for the clubs that no longer exist, compiled Ciarán Nugent and Peter Maybury.

On the event, 909 Originals editor Steve Wynne-Jones had this to say. “The 1990s was a time of cultural awakening in Dublin, which was best represented by the vibrancy of the city’s nightclub industry.”

“With ANALOG RHYTHMS, we pay tribute to the people and places that helped shape the scene and cement Dublin’s reputation as one of the party capitals of Europe.”
