Here’s how to get free pastéis de natas in Dublin tomorrow

Lisboa will open tomorrow in Dublin two, and to celebrate, they’re giving away five hundred pastéis de natas.

It’s been a big year for the pastel de nata in Dublin, with three Portuguese pastelarias popping up across the city serving the country’s signature treat. Lisboa, the latest addition, has landed on St Andrew Street, directly across from South William Street.

Not content with being a one-trick pony either, Lisboa’s menu will go beyond just pastries. They will have popular Portuguese sandwiches, sausage rolls and desserts from different regions in Portugal.

For the unacquainted, a pastel de nata is a classic Portuguese dessert meaning “cream pastry”. However it’s more than that. They’re a bite-sized desserts, meant to be popped into the mouth with one’s hands. They always consist of a crispy puff pastry with a gooey vanilla custard filling. There as been a growing affinity for Portuguese food in Ireland, due maybe to it’s increasing popularity as a holiday destination. This opening and that of Café Lisboa on Capel Street and Alfama in Dundrum reflect that.

“We’re so excited to finally be bringing our little bit of Lisbon to Dublin and opening our doors to the public this week,” the director of Lisboa, Lee Sim, says. “We wanted our friends in Dublin to have a place where they can get a great sandwich on the go and enjoy the tastes of Lisbon without having to travel too far”. And with their prime city-centre location, Lisboa is sure to be a huge success.

Sim and co-owner, Marvin Skudlarski, are no strangers to Dublin’s culinary scene. Their previous ventures includ the Port House and the newly-opened Aperitivo on Nassau Street.

Lisboa opens its doors at 12:00, Tuesday November 29 on 7 Andrew Street.
