Here’s How To Get Coffee For €2.50 Today

Words: Shamim de Brún

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays Copper and Straw on Aston Quay have a coffee happy hour where you can get your favourite brew for only €2.50 from 12:00 – 13:00

Coffee+Straw’s Aston Quay café offers coffee-lovers four beans on espresso. Two of which are on filter and their very own range of signature drinks. These change seasonally so there is always something to try. The store also stocks several speciality coffee brands and some top-quality equipment.

The cafe works with suppliers like Firehouse Bakery and Maison Moli, who provide a range of pastries, cakes and gluten-free and vegan treats. Their house roaster is Belfast’s Bailies Coffee and they choose a different guest roaster each month. The team uses three different beans on espresso. One that’s paired with milk. Another that’s served served black and a high-scoring coffee from their guest roaster.

Once upon a time, Founder Stephen Kennedy wanted to become a writer. However, after spending hours reading books or scribbling in notebooks in coffee shops around Dublin he found himself more interested in coffee. After a stint in Berlin introduced him to the world of single origins and new brewing methods he left the stories behind. Instead he returned to Dublin with “an empty notebook and a head full of ideas”. Shortly afterwards Kennedy set himself on the path to opening his own cafe.

The first Copper and Straw opened on Bray Main Street before expanding to Aaron Quay and Aston Quay. Working in the likes of 3fe and coffee shops all over Dublin, gave Kennedy the chance to build up his skills base. Once he increased his knowledge enough he opened Copper + Straw three years later in December 2018. “The learning curve was immense. I often wondered if I was up to it,” Kennedy said in 2021.

You can find Copper + Straw on 1 Arran Quay, Dublin 7, follow them on Instagram for more information.
