A new steak and seafood food truck launches in Dublin 8 today

Words: Emily Mullen

Hang(er) on there

A brand spanking new food truck has pulled up into Dublin 8’s new food market, Dinetown. Nestled in the horse and cart yard of The Iveagh Market on Francis Street, Hanger launches on July 1st.

The shiny new slipstream truck will be serving up the Irish culinary dons, of steak and seafood cooked over timber and coal.

Some of their menu has been teased online ahead of the launch, including their Billionaire Fries which are made up of crispy potato chips that have been stuffed with braised oxtail, topped with crispy oyster mushrooms and anchovy mayo, alongside their Giant Yorkshire Pudding which is filled with beef dripping chips, John Stone beef brisket, house gravy and loaded with cheese, and their Hanger Steak Kebab served on potato boxty bread, fermented black garlic aioli, pickled vegetables and Yemenite hot sauce.

Hanger will be running out of Dinetown from Thursday-Saturday from 5pm-9pm and Sunday from 12pm-7pm.

This new spot is being run in conjunction with Bow Lane Social Club and chef Gavin McDonagh. McDonagh has had a busy few weeks launching new ventures across Dublin including Wuuf and The Chicken Hut in Dublin Zoo.

McDonagh is previously Chef Patron of Michelin listed Brioche restaurant in Ranelagh which closed in 2017, is working as Group Executive Chef at Baxterstorey, and has been heading up their concept development.

Dinetown organiser Marcus O’Laoire said space which is still expanding will house “everything from delicious food vendors and trucks, brilliant coffee, fishmongers, crafts”.

“I grew up in Dublin 8, and to able to kick a bit of life into a space that’s been closed for almost 30 years, and that will ultimately serve the city is a very fulfilling thing,” he added.

You can find Hanger from Thursday-Saturday from 5pm-9pm and Sunday from 12pm-7pm, in The Iveagh Market on Francis Street, follow them on Instagram for more information.
