Every cameo in Stormzy’s video for ‘MEL MADE ME DO IT’

Words: Dylan Murphy

The rapper made a surprise return with the release of the video for ‘MEL MADE ME DO IT’ which featured Usain Bolt, Jose Mourinho and Louis Thereoux to name a few. Now, we have the full cast list.

In an industry dominated by an app that favours short disposable content, it’s becoming harder and harder to make longer form content stick. Singles are prioritised over albums, sounds on Tik Tok are more important than ever and with that in mind, if the music content is over five minutes it usually takes something pretty special to arrest the internet’s attention.

Enter Stormzy. Last night, the London rapper dropped a ten (yes, ten) minute video for a new track ‘MEL MADE ME DO IT’, in an unannounced move. A press release describes the track as a “a direct reference to the influence of his long-time personal stylist, Melissa’s Wardrobe” and it features a powerful monologue written by Wretch 32 and narrated by British actress Michaela Cole. Those contributions would be impressive by themselves, but Big Mike really called on the cavalry of black British excellence for a moving series of shots after some unexpected appearances from other pop culture icons.

The most recognisable appearances from international guests comes from Usain Bolt and none other than Jose Mourinho. However, it’s the appearances of figures moving the needle in Britain like Little Simz, Dave and Clint that make for the most stirring moment towards the end.
