Dublin Gets Gold-Plated Sushi

Asahi on Charlemont Street has said, ‘what cost of living crisis?’ and introduced gold-plated sushi to their menu this week.

Top-quality sushi is already a favourite cuisine for diners looking to splash some cash. One couldn’t be blamed for assuming it’s nothing more than a cylindrical gold brick that fell off the back of a truck. But, no, it’s a sushi roll, available on Charlemont Street. We reached out to Asahi to ascertain the price, but they had not returned with a comment at the time of publication.

Asahi serves street food favourites from Japan, Thailand, Korea, Malaysia, India and China. Asahi prides itself on its team of talented native chefs who whip together dishes from Bangkok to Tokyo.

Some of the world’s finest seafood, surrounded by everyone’s favourite precious metal, sounds like an appropriate meal for the neo-feudalism we’re living through.

The first-ever gold-plated sushi roll was created “in the basement of the Shinjuku Isetan” in Tokyo, according to RocketNews24. The price tag was 10,800 yen, which translates to roughly €75.
