CHAR’s News of The Week Round-Up

CHARmanders – Dublin is hopping with all sorts of upheavals and optimistic openers, so we’ve condensed and curated them for your convenience.

The Bits and Bobs

The Dead Rabbit Team are popping up at 1661 today from 15:00 for a Q&A followed by some signature drinks. Clery’s Clock was unveiled, albeit fifteen minutes late and at the wrong time. According to their Instagram, One Kinda Folk will open their new Dublin 4 location on Friday, January 20.

Roe & Co have launched a new limited edition Coffee Stout cask finished whiskey. Krew Food have launched a new January delivery menu. El Milagro will pop up at All Good Wine Bar on Friday and Saturday from 18:30, slinging tacos and natty wine.

Jaru Opened on Meath Street

Jaru announced in November 2022 that they would be opening their first eat-in restaurant in 2023. Originally a ghost kitchen that was a takeaway-only- peak-pandemic-must-try Jaru made its name on its quality Korean fare. It’s run by Gunmoo Kim, whose focus is on delivering modern Korean food using Irish ingredients. The company initially began as a college project in DIT Cathal Brugha Street and has gone from pop-up to this venue over the past seven years.

505 Coffee closed their Loughlinstown premises

After just under two years in business, 505 Coffee announced their departure from their Jim Rock Motors premises in Loughlinstown in an Instagram post. They, however, did round off the announcement by saying that this wouldn’t be a permanent closure. It is more likely just a pivot to a new location. The coffee hatch was a much-loved spot in Loughlinstown, and the locals will likely miss it greatly. 505 Coffee was also well known for its pay-it-forward scheme whereby a customer could pay for a coffee in advance as an anonymous act of kindness to someone in need. Keep an eye on their Instagram to see where they park up in the future.

Becky Morgan’s pub got a rebrand and has become The Storyteller.

Back in August, owners of toastie business Griolladh, Jack Brennan and Jacob Long, announced they leased Grand Canal Streets’ well-known spot, Becky Morgans. In an Instagram post, they cryptically announced the new spot would be ‘coming soon’. My inner mystic meg tells me they’ll likely have some solid cheesy toasties.

Cheeky Rascal move out of Howth Junction.

Howth Junction is the Hollyholly Head of the DART line, and Cheeky Rascal has been one of the high points of the limbo-like train station since it opened in 2020. Much like 505, they ended their announcement by saying, “This won’t be the end of Cheeky Rascal, and we’re working on plans to continue serving in Suttonians during the weekend.”

Tune in next week for CHAR’s now weekly round-up.
