Blasta Books is releasing four new cook books

Words: Ellen Kenny

Your meals are about to get tastier, and your bookshelf is about to get more aesthetically pleasing.

Following their successful launch, Blasta Books is back with a new batch of accessible recipes, connecting good food with good stories. The new quarterly book series is set to help you get creative in the kitchen and cook more sustainably.

The new Blasta series will start off with “Soup” by Dee Laffan, Mei Chin, and Blanca Valencia, also known as the hosts of the award winning Spice Bag podcast. Coming January 2023, this cookbook is fairly self-explanatory, and the soups they have collected reflect individual cultures, memories and tastes while also reflecting Irish food today and the people behind it.

Blasta will release “Tapas” by Anna Cabrera and Vanessa Murphy in April 2023. Vanessa and Anna will be sharing some of their favourite recipes from their beloved Dublin restaurant, Las Tapas de Lola. With thousands of ways to play with these recipes, “Tapas” is the perfect party-planning book.

“Wasted” by director of FoodSpace Ireland Conor Spacey will launch in July 2023. This book is a capsule collection of recipes that will help you to stop wasting food and turn perfectly good ingredients into delicious dishes. With an emphasis on plant-based recipes, “Wasted” is creating more sustainable kitchens.

Finally, “Masarap” by Richie Castillo and Alex O’Neill explores the Bahay chef’s Filipino heritage. This book offers classic dishes such as adobo, a range of exciting Filipino dishes and playful recipes with Filipino flavours that highlight his experience growing up eating Filipino food with Irish ingredients.

Each book is set to be illustrated once again by Dublin artist Nicky Hooper. While each book is a standalone set of recipes, together the series offers a taste of Ireland’s modern and diverse food culture.

Blasta launched their first publication, “Tacos”, in February 2022. The series challenges traditional 300-page cookbooks with simple, effective recipes of their own, all compacted into 72 pages. Blasta Books recently released “The United Nations of Cookies”, featuring 25 cookies from around the world.
