A looming Sriracha shortage is coming for Irish hot sauce lovers after the maker of Dublin’s go-to condiment said it was suspending sales due to a lack of chillis.
According to Bloomberg, the Southern California-based Huy Fong Inc confirmed that all of its beloved Sriracha products would be affected.
In an email to customers in April, the company called the shortage “severe” and related to the climate crisis. The company sources its peppers from farms in California, New Mexico and Mexico. They said that weather conditions were affecting the quality of the peppers and deepening the chilli pepper shortage.
Historic drought and hot temperatures across the US have been taking a toll on California’s agriculture. The company email said they would fulfil all orders submitted after April nineteenth from September fifth. “Unfortunately, this is out of our control and without this essential ingredient, we are unable to produce any of our products,” the company said.
“We understand this may cause issues. However, during this time, we will not accept any new orders to be placed before September as we will not have enough inventory to fulfil your order,” the company added.
