A new Mother-and-Daughter run coffee shop has opened in Clontarf

Ebbs & Flows lead to Surges
There’s a new family run business launched on Clontarf’s seafront. Clontarf-natives will recognise the place as Ebbs & Flow cafe, which closed up over a year ago in March 2020 during lockdown one. Ebbs & Flow was run by Fiona Fitzgerald and David Smyth, for reopening it was decided that Fitzgerald and her daughter Naoise would start a new cafe on the same spot.
So Surge was born, out of a mother-and-daughter “partnership”, the launch has been “a hard year of work” but Naoise told us she excited to be working with her mother and launching the cafe.
The cafe has gone through a bit of a facelift, forgoing the dark blues of Ebb & Flow to make way for Surge coffee’s signature black. The team shared updates of the renovation on Instagram, which has included new light fixtures, tiles, and shelving.
Surge coffee officially opened on April 29th, coffee is supplied from Root & Branch, with sandwiches from Greenville Deli, croissants from Medialuna and cakes from Camerino Bakery.
The team seem to be off to a flying start and judging by social media locals (and four-legged locals) have flocked to the spot for their caffeine fixes.
Surge coffee is located on 56 Clontarf Road, Clontarf, and is open daily from 8am-5pm follow them on Instagram for more updates.
