In an ocean full to the brim with choice, it can be tough to narrow down what to order from your trusty delivery app. There are so many options. One might argue too many. What a time to be alive. Our ancestors would simply pass away with all this choice. So naturally, we’re here to help you out. This is a countdown folks, so the more you read, the better they get.
Dublin’s starting to get quite the reputation for having good Hong Kong diners and one of the best is Hong Kong Wonton by Eva Pau of Asia Market fame. Sure they have the Hong Kong classics like noodle bowls, wontons, and spring rolls, but we are here for the breakfast. The crispy bun filled with egg and luncheon meat, the chicken congee with the dough stick for dipping, the egg tarts, oh the egg tarts, but whatever you order, let it be known that you simply cannot skip the French toast with peanut butter.
Char’s Choice: The chicken congee, and of course the French toast with peanut butter.
The explosion of Japanese style sandos has no doubt taken over everyone’s FYP in the last couple of years, leaving us pining for a 7-Eleven (please, not another American chain). The word sando comes from sandoitchi, the Japanese for sandwich – but Japan has very much levelled up the humble snack between bread. Said bread is no doubt a major component of the overall execution and shokupan is just the man for the job – a ridiculously soft, fluffy milk bread with a thin crust. The filling of the sandos are all about balance – plenty of texture, bursting with flavour and, of course, the whole thing happens to be super instagram worthy when you see that cross section.
These ain’t no floppy funeral sambo (no shade, we love those too), Sando Paradiso are pushing the boat out and making top tier lunchbox fillers.
Char’s Choice: Fish Finger Sando 2.0
Neapolitan pizza famously doesn’t travel particularly well compared to other members of the pizza family, but luckily there are a couple of Coke Lane locations dotted around the city. Top tip: ask them to leave the pizza uncut and slice it yourself when it arrives. It helps keep all that precious heat in. And trust us, it’s worth the extra effort.
Coke Lane’s base hits that perfect fluffy-yet-chewy sweet spot, and, in our opinion, it’s some of the best pizza in the city.
Char’s Choice: Pizza toppings are a personal and subjective choice so you do you honey boo x
We lost them for a minute there, but the Dorset Street kings of chicken are back, baby. Wishbone might have made their name on the wings – and rightly so – but the rest of the menu deserves a look in too. Think corn ribs, mac ’n’ cheese, mozzarella sticks, bang bang broccoli and sticky toffee madeleines. Still, it’s the wings we’re here for. You’d be hard pressed to find better ones on the app.
Char’s Choice: It’s gotta be their classic buffalo chicken wings.
The Daata story is really quite sweet. Mohammed Saleem left Pakistan for Ireland in 1990, and with his wife Shamim Akhtar, they opened up their first takeaway in 1999. Now, Daata are starting to become a bit of an empire, taking over Dublin one branch at a time with no sign of them slowing down. They are currently standing at six locations, meaning it’s becoming increasingly harder for Southsiders to be outside of their delivery radius.
Char’s Choice: The Lahori Fried Fish and the Famous Afghani Chicken
A legitimate OG – Baan Thai has been serving the good people of Ballsbridge and beyond since 1998. They boast authentic Thai food and their menu is a lot more varied than the usual Thai spots you see popping up on the app. We’re talking Som Tom salads, crispy half duck, prawns that are actually jumbo, jungle curries, and sea bass seven different ways. The best part? Thai food travels extremely well if you order correctly.
Char’s Choice: The Som Tom salad and The Half Duck in a Choo Chee sauce
