Birra Moretti is Bringing An Authentic Dining Experience Cooked by Real Italian Nonnas to Dublin

Words: Hannah Lemass

For one night only, sisters Daniela and Monica Venturi of the world-famous restaurant, Le Sfogline, are bringing their traditional, authentic handmade pasta to Dublin.

There is a universal language of love that is expressed by grandmothers all over the world. Whether it’s a granny, an oma, an abuela, a bubbe or nonna, they all show us they care by cooking for us. The flavours and smells of our grandmother’s kitchen can nourish us for a lifetime. In Italy, the tradition is especially palpable. An Italian grandmother, or nonna, would sooner eat an entire pineapple pizza than see her grandchild go hungry. It’s literally a service of love, especially for Italian nonnas. Many hand-make their pasta, a labour-intensive and delicate operation that is the ultimate expression of care.

If you’ve always wanted the Italian nonna experience but sadly didn’t grow up Italian, then we have a solution for you. Two of the globe’s favourite nonnas, Daniela and Monica Venturi, of the world-famous Bologna pasta shop Le Sfogline, are coming later this month.

Since 1996, the sisters have been crafting pasta at Le Sfogline, a business they opened with their mother. She refused to retire because she felt called to feed the people of Bologna, sharing the dishes she once made just for her family. That same drive flows through Daniela and Monica. Every day, they pour their hearts into their work, making pasta by hand from dawn until dusk to feed an ever-growing community of hungry guests. People come from all over to visit their shop seeking the purest taste of Bolognese tradition – and that’s exactly what they serve, with recipes and techniques passed down through generations.

Usually, to experience their food, you’d need to make the pilgrimage to Bologna. But in a beautiful celebration of tradition, Birra Moretti is bringing the sisters to Dublin, letting them cook their signature dishes for their Irish ‘grandchildren’. It’s a match made in heaven: Birra Moretti, like Daniela and Monica, believes in celebrating life’s simple pleasures, honouring authenticity, and gathering together over food and drink made with love.

On the 23rd and 24th of July, you can pull up a chair to Nonna’s table at The Fumbally Stables in Dublin 8. This is going to be a real immersive experience where you will feel like you are stepping into the Italian countryside, a world away from the hustle and bustle of Dublin city. Let the nonnas dote on you, serving their favourite dishes that are deeply rooted in tradition. It will be simple, homey fare, but it’s the simplicity that makes it so special. What it comes down to is the skill and love that these women put into their food, transforming simple elements into flavour bombs of comfort. Birra Moretti wants to celebrate these unassuming simple pleasures in life that keep us going and bring us together like a plate of great food, stimulating conversation, and a crisp pint of beer.

You can grab your ticket to join the nonnas via Eventbrite and let them look after you with delish grub and warm hospitality.

If you can’t make it to The Fumbally to meet the ladies in Dublin, then don’t stress – they will be going on tour across Ireland this summer, and one lucky fan will even have the chance to win a trip to visit them in their hometown of Bologna and try out their cooking at their iconic shop, Le Sfogline so keep your eyes peeled.

Remember to Enjoy Birra Moretti responsibly.
