Nick’s is fully open in Ranelagh
After being forced to close last year Ranelagh’s most beloved coffee spot has fully reopened on its home turf again today.
Nick’s new venue is two doors down from their old spot, number 20 Ranelagh. While it has been functioning as an at the door takeaway since January today marks the first-day customers can enter and explore the interior.
In May 2021 owner of Nick’s Coffee Nicholas Seymour, posted an image on Twitter of builders removing a structure behind the cafe. In the tweet, Seymour said, “after being told by our solicitor that they can’t just demolish our shop and stores without court order… they do.”
Nick’s Coffee formally announced their departure the following October after twelve years of serving Ranelaghites. Speaking to the Irish Times, Seymour said that five years ago the building ago was bought out of NAMA by the current owner. The owner allegedly refused to negotiate a new lease for the cafe.
The closing was met with an outpouring of support from customers who frequented the kiosk. The old spot was inexplicably slotted in between the front of the Ranelagh Dart station and a house.
Nick’s sells their own fifty-gram bag of sweet espresso beans including Decaf for six euros. Or you can get a full kilo for twenty-two a pop. They also now sell merch. This includes teeshirts, branded keep cups, beanies and tote bags.
