Asahi Super Dry to Host an Exclusive Summer Dining Event at Yamamori Izakaya

Words: Hannah Lemass

Asahi Super Dry is teaming up once again with Yamamori Izakaya for another stunning evening of Japanese flavours and hospitality.

Following the success of last year’s event in October, the team is back, and this time it’s a summer soirée, the perfect time of year to sip crisp pints of Asahi Super Dry. On Thursday June 19th, Yamamori Izakaya will host this exclusive dining experience, featuring a carefully curated three course tasting menu. Each course will be expertly paired with the iconic Japanese beer Asahi Super Dry and a selection of premium sake, chosen by highly skilled sake sommelier Sarika Seki Hussey.

Asahi Super Dry is the quintessential beer. It’s clean, crisp and refreshing. It’s as bright as the morning sun it’s named after. It pairs perfectly with anything and everything. Seriously, a pint of Asahi Super Dry complements everything from sushi to coddle and anything in between. It’s the perfect companion to any meal, and it will particularly shine alongside the flavours of the night.

This event isn’t just about great food and drinks. It’s a chance to dive into some of Japan’s most celebrated beverages and the culinary traditions that surround them. You’ll be guided through the menu on the night by Sarika, and discover that there is much more to Japanese gastronomy than just teriyaki chicken and California rolls.

What’s on the Menu?

Yamamori is the pioneer of Japanese cuisine in Dublin, and for this special evening, they’ve put together a stunning line-up. Expect a mix of authentic delicacies with exciting, adventurous twists you won’t find just anywhere. Each dish is perfectly paired with the crisp, refreshing taste of Asahi Super Dry and a selection of exquisite Japanese sake, carefully chosen to complement every bite.

Did you know you can treat sake like wine? Each variety has its own unique flavour profile and can pair beautifully with different dishes. This event isn’t just a chance to taste them. It’s also a rare opportunity to learn how to match sake to specific flavours, with sommelier-level insights that you can impress your friends with in the future.

The first course offers a truly authentic taste of Japan with an ume hotate roll. Ume, or Japanese plum, delivers a sweet and tangy profile that pairs perfectly with buttery hotate (scallops). But that’s not all. This dish has scallops served two ways. You will also be served a hotate katsu, deep-fried scallop served with rich miso butter. Vegetarians will have the option of a futomaki roll and an aubergine katsu with that miso butter, while vegans can opt for tempura padrón pepper. This course is paired with Dassai 45, a mild and fruity sake with notes of honeydew melon, muscat grape and mandarin orange. Its brightness cuts through the richness of the dish, offering the perfect finish.

Next is something truly unique: a cheese miso yaki onigiri with Wagyu steak. Inspired by the humble convenience-store onigiri rice ball, this version is elevated by being grilled and served with rich, gooey cheese and savoury steak sauce. Wagyu beef is prized for its luxurious flavour and melt-in-the-mouth texture, making this a truly indulgent treat that we rarely get the opportunity to try. Vegetarian guests will enjoy this course with tender oyster mushrooms instead of wagyu while vegans can have it without cheese. The pairing for this dish is Yamamoto Junmai Ginjo, a beautifully balanced sake with fruity and savoury notes and a creamy texture that complements the richness of the dish.

The third course offers salmon tartare delicately nestled in a crisp cucumber cup, topped with crunchy sesame rice for texture and contrast. The vegan and vegetarian alternative is deep-fried tofu, with a teriyaki sauce and garnished with spring onion. Both are paired with Kikumasamune Junmai Kimoto, a dry and crisp sake with hints of red berries and a touch of nuttiness.
