It’s still a bit nippy out there, and we don’t want to be stuck out in the rain and frost with our pints just so we can sit with our furry pals while we’re on the piss.
We’ve all grown very attached to our pets, particularly since Covid when we developed acute co-dependence with our animal companions. The thought of leaving them at home is cruel. So, here are just some of our favourite uber dog-friendly boozers where you can bring your four-legged comrades inside for the session.
Located just a smidge out of the way of town, this place has the charm of a neighbourhood boozer but with the energy and buzz of a city centre hotspot. It’s always lively here, with crowds of punters of both human and canine persuasions. They’ve built a reputation as one of Dublin’s most madra-friendly establishments, with a dog wall full of pics of pooches and even doggy beds built in under the seating. They also host dedicated dog events, like the Pup-Up Pizzeria fundraisers and the upcoming Valentines Eve Doggy Ball.
Cool pets know that Fidelity is the spot to be. This place doesn’t look like the typical dog-friendly bar, but trust me—humans are regularly outnumbered by animals here. And if you’re a cat person, you won’t be left out—feline punters are welcome too. Even feathered friends have been spotted at Fidelity. As long as your pet likes craft beers, basil margaritas, and smooth tunes they’ll fit right in.
Maybe you and Fido want to get out of the house, but you’re not really in the mood for pints. Look no further than Board. You and your pet can settle in for the evening with tasty pizza and endless non-alcoholic options, all while poring over a selection of board games. Board is a mostly dry bar that specialises in 0% and low alcohol options as well as an impressive collection of games. You won’t miss the booze at all but if you do find yourself driven to the drink after losing one too many rounds of Codenames, they do have a few alcoholic options on offer too.
If you ask a bunch of Dubs what their favourite pub is, you’re bound to hear The Barbers come up more than once. It’s a fab pub with great character and pints plus they have delicious Japanese food from Tokyo Kitchen too, making it the perfect place to spend an extended amount of quality time with your pup. These guys are not just dog-friendly—they are notoriously dog-obsessed, with a wall dedicated to their hairiest (I would assume) clientele and cute little hidey holes for them to kip in.
Hynes has that old-man pub vibe but with a familiar modern Dublin quirkiness. This fusion attracts a warm and eclectic cast of characters that includes pintmen on two legs and four. A rare haven for enjoying cosy pints in the winter and sun-drenched pints in the beer garden in the summer, it’s as close to a perfect pub as you can get—made all the better by the puppy punters in attendance. Oh, and you can get a bit of a discount on your pint if you order as Gaeilge, which is so sound. Sláinte to that.
