Things to eat in and around Dublin from July 19th-25th 2021, everything from chicken in croissants to breaded oysters
In the midst of heatwave, brains scatter and thoughts get a bit melty. It can be difficult to think of anything else to eat other than a 99 and a Irish Mam salad. To help out with that dilemma, we have collected the top five things we like the look of around the city (and Bray) that we would like to get down our gullets. Here are five things in Dublin this week that we like the look of:
Fish Bar’s Hake Burger
All this sun has got us congregating around the coast like seagulls to Dublin City Council bins. Bray has exploded with unreal out food options over the Summer, with food trucks flocking to the seaside town. The food arm of The Harbour Bar, the Fish Bar are reworking some unusual dishes integrating fish into them, like their fish spice box and their mussel nuggets. They debuted their new fish burger on Instagram this week, showing off fillets of crispy panfried hake, with lemon and paprika marinade, guacamole, garlic mayo and baby gem, served in a brioche bun and arriving with chips. The Secret Garden’s Chicken Croissant
It could be the fragile state of our health after the sunniest weekend of the year talking but anything served in a croissant sounds excessively appetising at the moment. Particularly, the southern fried chicken fitted into a croissant, topped with pickled red cabbage and lettuce at The Secret Garden terrace in The Alex Hotel. The brunch option comes with house cut chips and roasted garlic sauce. The chicken looks crispy as hell and tender on the inside, paired with the tang of the pickled cabbage and the sweet flakiness of the croissant. The croissant isn’t the only IG-worthy thing, with the floral covered terrace out the back of the hotel basically designed for the gram. Gorditas’s Conitos
These conitos (classic Argentine dessert) look like everything we’ve ever dreamed of and more. Crunchy biscuit base, filled up with large amounts of dulce de leche and then dipped in chocolate. These are the work of Dublin-based bakery Gorditas who specialized in Argentine alfajores and also sells desserts like montecitos. Sprezzatura’s Tomato Carpaccio
Sprezzatura have only gone and made Summer on a plate. They trapped the sun in their outdoor area (Plaza Sprezzatura), got loads of Winelab wine in and made their Tomato Carpaccio. Finely slicing heirloom tomatoes, cracking some black pepper and sloshing some Italian olive oil and sprinkling some micro basil on top. The dish looks like the only thing you would ever want to eat on a Summers day and is probably as close to Italy as we will get this season. Musashi’s breaded oysters
With Capel Street becoming pedestrianised in the evenings, it’s become one of the best spots for outdoor dining in the city. While Musashi’s menu has always been impressive, they’ve recently added breaded oysters which look next level. Sourcing their molluscs in Galway, they are panko-coated and deep fried (Kaki fried), then served with some sesame seeds, wilted parsley and slabs of lemon.
