A unique way to celebrate St Patrick’s Day

The Roe & Co Irish Whiskey Distillery at St James’s Street in Dublin’s Liberties area has one of the most immersive experiences in Irish whiskey distilling, garnering global attention for their distillery experience after Lonely Planet named them one of the ten best new openings in the world for 2019. They currently offer three different tour options; The Blending Experience, Flavour Experience, and Of Sand and Soil: A Taste of Ireland, which is running for a limited time only through March and April.

The Blending Experience is a guided visit where guests experience the art of blending with a whiskey tasting in Room 106. The story of Roe & Co’s unique whiskey blend 106 will take guests on a journey from distilling to maturation and finally blending, showcasing variance in Irish whiskey styles. Visitors will get a chance to create their own blend by building a whiskey Old Fashioned.

The Blending Experience

The Flavours Experience experience will take guests through the Five Pillars of Flavour; sweet, sour, bitter, salty and umami. The experience lets you choose your whiskey cocktail based on your own unique palate, uncovering the taste of your selected flavour pillar with the help of Roe & Co’s mixologists. The experience finishes with a whiskey cocktail of your choice from a custom menu in their Power House Bar.

The Flavours Experience

The Taste of Ireland Experience is a brand new premium sensory experience, running for a limited time through March and April. Roe & Co have collaborated with Killahora Orchards to create a new blend, Roe & Killahora Curators 0.2, delivering distinctively Irish flavours just in time for Saint Patricks Day. Visitors can expect to be greeted with a Roe & Co cocktail before being brought to the Flavours Workshop, meeting a Flavours Expert and learning how to create the perfect Irish cocktail. From there, guests will be taken to Room 106 and join a Tasting Expert who will guide them through a whiskey tasting experience, featuring the limited-edition Roe & Killahora Curators 0.2 whiskey. This tasting will be paired with bespoke artisan bites, from Irish cheeses to handmade chocolates. At €55 per person, this is a great deep dive in to Irish flavours and a unique way to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.

Roe & Co is a contemporary blend, named to honour the memory of a whiskey-maker whose distillery was in its time the largest in Ireland , dating back to the 18th century. Once the largest distillery in either Britain or Ireland, George Roe & Co helped build the golden era of Irish whiskey in the 19th century. George Roe’s distillery extended over 17 city centre acres. Recently it has been revitalised by its long-time neighbours.

The Guinness team took their old power station and regenerated it into a new visitor experience and urban distillery in honour of their once neighbour George Roe. As neighbours for hundreds of years, Mr Roe and Mr Guinness were the two biggest names at the heart of Dublin’s historic brewing and distilling quarter and among the city’s biggest employers. So, this collaborative support of a formerly cherished neighbour is all the more heartening.

The Roe & Co Distillery is now a revitalised beacon in the distillery world. Owned and operated by Guinness’s parent company, Diageo. It is located on 92 James’s St  in Dublin, across the street from St. James’s Gate brewery. Tickets for each of Roe & Co Distillery’s experiences are available online from €23 and run seven days a week. You must be over 18 to participate.
