Saltwater Grocery and Sticks collaborate for one night only

Saltwater Grocery in Terenure has teamed up with Sticks to bring Dublin a one night only six-course tasting menu.

The tasting menu will be a mesh of both their styles and will cost sixty-five euros per person. It will only run on Sunday April 10, and bookings can be made by phone or email.

Saltwater Grocery is a fishmonger, deli and food shop that becomes a raw fish restaurant at night. The tiny space accommodates a maximum of twenty guests. To nab a spot, you have to sign up for a sitting on either Friday or Saturday evenings. Co-owners and chefs Niall Sabongi and Karl Whelan are behind the venture. On Wednesdays, the shop hosts masterclasses and tasting sessions. This collaboration with Sticks is the latest in their series. Their first collaboration with Assassination Custard was a sell-out success.

Sticks are one of the most unique pop-ups in Dublin at the moment. Jonny Boyle and Kate O’Donohoe pop up only in select locations and serve a seven-course menu entirely composed of things that can be served on sticks. Boyle, who has worked as a chef, creative director and DJ in Dublin, describes Sticks as “inspired by Japanese skewer culture – yakitori, kushiyaki, kushikatsu – but not exclusively Japanese”. He and O’Donohoe have opened their concept to global influences, concentrating on delivering “flavour bombs on a stick”.

Boyle does the cooking and his wife, O’Donohoe, runs front of house. According to their website, they are looking for a spot to open a permanent restaurant.
