Heinz and Terry’s launch new chocolate orange mayonnaise

By Shamim de Brún

In what’s bound to be a polarising festive mash-up Heinz and Terry’s have teamed up to bring the world a chocolate orange mayonnaise. It is a blend of mayonnaise and chocolate orange segments, creme patissiere with an extra dose of orange oil. This cocktail of Christmas necessities is a radical shift from how we view either of these products.

It’s equal parts intriguing and terrifying.

The “deliciously rich concoction” is not available in stores. You’ve got to enter their competition to be in with a chance of sampling. There are only 75 jars of this limited-edition creation in existence so you’ll need to head over to Heinz’s social media channels for more information on how to enter the competition, which starts today.

The Heinz and Terry’s spread combines the texture of mayonnaise and the taste of chocolate orange. It’s akin to a nutella-esque spread but with the silky texture of mayonnaise. The serving suggestions are more sweets oriented than mayonnaise; “dolloped onto your festive desserts or spread onto brioche, scones, pancakes, or croissants this festive season.”

Heinz and Terry’s are both much loved and iconic brands. Terry’s Chocolate Orange was invented in the 1930s. It became a Christmas staple stocking filler in Ireland in the 90s. This is thought to be an evolution of the tradition of gifting actual oranges for Christmas.

Heinz has been making condiments since the late 1800s and is best known as the maker of America’s Favorite Ketchup.
