The free-entry event will take place from 12:00 to 17:00 on the 17 of September in Collins Barracks, Dublin 7.
The festival is taking place as part of Dublin Climate Action Week 2022. You can learn how to pickle vegetables, chef-grade knife skills, or turn food scraps into compost. There will be chefs on hand to share their tips on climate action in the kitchen.
Featured chefs include Conor Spacey of Foodspace, Dan Keane of Urban Brewing, Katie Quinn of Lilliput Stores and Eoin Meldon of Little Bird Coffee & Yoga. A series of After-Lunch Chats will focus on how food can be a simple solution to climate change.
Festival organiser Michelle Darmody is a journalist, food educator and researcher. She was approached by Sabrina Dekker and the Climate Action Team in Dublin City Council to bring to life a conversation around food and climate change. What does it mean to eat local and a planetary diet? ‘Eat the Streets!’ explores the answers by drawing attention to Dublin’s agriculture history as the vegetable basket of Ireland. It brings together and grows a community of chefs, growers, innovators, experts and locals.
In a press release, Michelle said: “Eat the Streets Festival! is a celebration of Dublin’s rich food culture. By growing, cooking, creating and discovering the food around us we explore ways to create a vibrant and more sustainable future. There will be a host of free workshops, engaging talks, and plenty of information and ideas. So, come to the National Museum, Collins Barracks on September 17th and help us put down roots for a tastier tomorrow.”
