When it comes to dining out in our fair city, it’s easy to get caught up in the bright lights and bustling atmosphere of the city centre. It’s accessible, there are loads of options, and let’s face it, we all have favourite haunts.

But sometimes, the best culinary experiences are found off the beaten path, in hidden corners of the city that many may overlook. The same can be said for sexy dishes. So, for those willing to venture beyond the city centre, the rewards can be deliciously unexpected. For this week’s edition, we were fortunate to partner with FREENOW to help make these experiences come to life.

05 Sandwich

Daddy’s

The Meatless Wonder is the hottest thing since sliced bread! It’s got all the fixin’s you could ever want in a meal, including Black Garlic Miso Cauliflower that will make your taste buds dance with delight. Dubliner Cheddar is so sharp it’d make your head spin, so chucking it in here balances the whole thing. The Rod’s Sunny Egg is perfectly cooked, with a yolk so poppable it would awaken your inner popper. The Chimichurri is so tangy and flavorful it’ll make you want to lick your plate clean.

McNally’s Organic Leaves shouldn’t be forgotten here. McNally’s deals in only the freshest seasonal greens, so you know they’ll add just the right crunch. If you want to have the best-looking lunch of the week, hit up Daddy’s for the Meatless Wonder. It’s a culinary accomplishment worth heading to Duhblin 8 on your lunch break for.

04 Lamb chops

Kinara Kitchen

Champ Kandhari – it’s the kind of dish that’ll make you want to slap your thigh and exclaim an almighty “haawt daawwme.”

First off, these Lamb Chops are the real deal. They’re so tender they practically melt in your mouth. The Chilli Masala gives them just the right amount of kick. And that charcoal finish? It’s like the grill gods themselves descended from Mount Olympus to bless this dish with their smokey goodness.

But wait, there’s more! The Mint Sauce is the perfect complement to the spiciness of the lamb, providing a refreshing and cooling balance. And let’s be real, who doesn’t love a good mint sauce?

Head on over to Clontarf or Ranelagh and get yourself some Champ Kandhari this week. ‘Tis lambing season, after all. Plus, they sling a mean cocktail too, and at a lower price point than you would expect.

03 Curry Mussles

Flaneur

Who knew Killary Fjord Curry Mussels were a thing? But now you do they are a must-try ASAP. This is the kid of dish that will become iconic. It was all we could talk about for days after. Which is the sign of a sig dish in the offing. These babies are so delicious; they’ll have you licking the plate clean and begging for more. Trust me; you won’t regret going out of your way to try them this week. Just be prepared to become completely and utterly addicted.

02 Bahn Mi

Vietnom

If you’re planning on downing a few pints this week but you also want quality grub, then you’ll be delighted to know Vietnom is back in action at The Glimmerman. Their Banh Mi’s make for the ultimate accompaniment to a pint of Guinney. Surprising some, but none who’ve tried it. And the pork banh mi in particular. This sandwich is the perfect combination of crispy pork, pickled veggies, and spicy mayo, all served on a fresh baguette. The Spice and the Guinness are as odd a couple as they make TV shows about. But they work in a guttural-in-your-bones way. So if a few scoops are on the cards, hop in a Free Now and head over to Stoneybatter and see for yourself.

01 Torched Porcupine Prawns

Michaels

Just look at this picture and you’ll see why butter-soaked Torched Porcupine Prawns are the dish of the week this week. They are the kind of alluring usually reserved for sirens in ancient Greek literature. I would indeed sacrifice my virtue just to attain them. Luckily we live in modern times, and I can just hightail it over to Blackrock and order them. These little critters are cooked to perfection with a torch and then soaked in a sea of melted butter that’ll have you feeling like you’ve died and gone to seafood heaven. Literally, nothing bad has ever come out of Michaels ot Big Mikes, so it’s a perfectly safe bet. Plus the outdoor setting is the perfect spot to watch the sunset with a glass of wine!
