Oakberry, an international chain of açaí purveyors, is expanding in Ireland with two new locations opening at Blanchardstown and the Ilac Shopping Centre this month.
It follows news that their South Anne Street branch is the most profitable Oakberry store in Europe and ranks among the top five of its 700 locations worldwide. So it’s fair to say açaí has Dubs in a chokehold.
If you’re a die har Oakberry fan, then good news for you as the business, which originated in Brazil and is known as the “Global Açaí Group,” aims to have 18-20 outlets across Ireland by the end of next year including in Galway, Kildare and Cork.
Açaí is a small purplish-red berry that grows on the Euterpe palm, a tree indigenous to the Amazon rainforest. It tastes like berries mixed with bitter chocolate. Oakberry sources their berries from the state of Pará in Brazil using sustainable and responsible practices.
It really does seem that Irish customers can’t get enough of açaí, with dozens of shops now offering the beloved Brazilian dish. Açaí smoothie bowls, like the ones on offer at Oakberry, are very popular but it’s not only because açaí is considered a superfood, rich in minerals and antioxidants. The bowls — frozen, blended açaí berries mixed and topped with tasty additions like fresh fruit, granola, and sauces such as peanut butter and chocolate — are super delicious too.
Oakberry açaí bowls start at €9, and they also offer a variety of juices, smoothies, and coffees.
