Pancake Tuesday is a rare, stress-free celebration dedicated to self-indulgence and pure, unadulterated pleasure.
It’s a day to treat yourself and use up all the goodies in the house before Lent—but more importantly, it’s a day of choices. What kind of pancake will you go for? A crispy crêpe? A towering stack of buttermilk beauties? And the toppings—fuhgeddaboudit! Sweet, savoury, fresh fruit, cream, chocolate, or the classic sugar and lemon—the possibilities are endless and absolutely irresistible.
Allow us to serve up a steaming stack of recommendations for the best places in Dublin to enjoy some truly scrumptious pancakes this Pancake Tuesday—and every other day, forever and ever. Amen.
Let’s talk over-the-top pancakes. Social Fabric is a cute little café in Stoneybatter, and they must have a pancake maestro the stature of Da Vinci in the kitchen because these dishes are true works of art. They have all sorts of tasty toppings for their fluffy buttermilk creations—think lemon meringue and maple bacon.
These French-style crêpes come with a perfectly cooked egg yolk in the middle. It’s like the pancake deities themselves came down and blessed these chefs with their divine powers. The crêpe is already savoury and delicious, but add that perfectly runny yolk, and you’ve got a dish that’s out of this world.
South Bank has a beautiful range of brunch and lunch favourites. If you’re there on the weekend, get the French toast—you won’t regret it. But it’s not French Toast Tuesday, it’s Pancake Tuesday, and they have two seriously delicious options. You can’t go wrong with the classic maple syrup and bacon, but if you want summer on a plate, try the Mascarpone Cream with Seasonal Berries and Brownie Crumb.
Tang does many things well, and the gluten-free pancakes on their breakfast menu are one of them. I feel for gluten-free folks and their pancake plight. Sure, gluten is their nemesis, but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve a stack on Pancake Tuesday. So to all you gluten-free people out there, don’t fret. You deserve those pancakes, and dammit, you should have them. They can even make them vegan. These must be the most inclusive pancakes in Dublin.
If you’re looking for a truly indulgent Pancake Tuesday lunch, then you gotta get yourself to Alma for some locally sourced, artisanal pancakes. Alma made their name with their legendary Dulce de Leche Pancakes, and if you haven’t tried them yet, Pancake Tuesday is the perfect excuse to change that. They’ve also got a delicious special just for the occasion—the Jamón Serrano pancakes which sound equally irritable as their sweet sibling.
