Its been a beautiful sunny week so we’re in great mood and just enjoying life. We’re also feeling very thankful for all the great bits and bobs we’ve been enjoying recently.
We love Doom Slice and we’re really enjoying their specials. The latest guest star on the menu is a classic Eggplant Parm. Eggplant is American for aubergine fyi. It’s smothered in tangy, rich marinara sauces and dusted with aged parmesan shavings. It’s a delicious medley of Italian American flavour. All that’s missing is a side of gabagool.
If you’re a fan of baked goods and sweet treats, you’re probably already quite familiar with Scéal and need no introduction. They’ve recently ventured into a new realm with their first sourdough workshops. Their sourdough is some of the best around, so you’ll be learning under excellent tutelage. The next workshops are coming up on the 13th and 27th of April at their Greystones bakery, and we’re hoping there will be many more to come.
Hang Dai has always been known for their top-tier cocktails served alongside an unbeatable selection of delicious Chinese and fusion dishes. Their new cocktail line-up might just be their best yet. There’s something for everyone, but one of the stars of the show has to be their dessert cocktail Flip Ya Lid. Creamy and sweet with a caramelised top, it’s giving crème brûlée vibes in cocktail form.
If you’re a chronic pub glass thief, here’s a solution that might scratch the itch without breaking the law. L. Mulligan Grocer, the iconic Stoneybatter pub known for their great pints and delicious pub grub, has announced their biannual glass cull. They’re offering up a range of lovely glasses they no longer use that are in need of a good home. You can head along and peruse the selection at the end of the bar while sipping a pint.
Everybody loves a sandwich, and I think we can all agree that the Japanese-style sando is one of the best iterations of the world’s favourite handheld meal. Thick, fluffy bread stuffed to the brim with lashings of tasty fillings, the sando is a staple in Japan and has gone viral on social media in recent times. They’re still a bit tricky to come by around here, but thankfully No Messin’ Bakery knows what’s up and has started supplying their buddies at Proper Order Coffee in Smithfield with these divine creations.
The sunshine has us craving light, sweet refreshments and the Kinnegar Jackrabbit Ginger Beer is just right for the task. It has a low ABV, so it’s perfect for long sun-drenched sessions. It’s brewed like a beer in Donegal, giving it a really nice complexity that sets it apart from other options that lean too sweet. Jackrabbit is a recent release, but it’s already had a brand new look, with an adorable little illustration of the Jackrabbit himself – the Kinnegar hare’s Mexican cousin.
Summer is upon us, so we’re in the mood to spruce up our dinner party presentation with some fresh flatware. One brand we’re really into at the moment is Tomorrows. It was founded by Heather Barnes, whose career with the United Nations sparked a passion for traditional artisanal crafts. Each piece you buy comes with information about the people who made it. It doesn’t get more transparent than that. Sustainability and empowerment are truly at the heart of what Tomorrows is doing.
The gorgeous glasses, for example, are hand-blown by local artisans in Kenya using recycled windows and bottles. The handcrafted and glazed ceramic plates from Egypt, East African cotton table linens and hand-woven grass placemats would make for a stunning table setting if you’re hosting a barbecue or summer garden party this year. And Tomorrows even offsets the carbon footprint of importing goods to Ireland, so you don’t even have to feel bad about that.
