Dublin’s always buzzing with new and exciting stuff, and Char’s here to spill the beans on what’s been making waves in the city. From whiskey adventures to wild garlic foraging, there’s something for everyone.
So, grab a snacky snack and dive in!
Dublin’s bakery scene is continues to thrive, and we’re not complaining! With places like Una popping up in Ranelagh, it feels like we’re living in the golden age of pastries. Una adds themselves to a list of heavy-hitters including (but not limited to) Bread 41, The Morning, Scéal, Fable, The Arty Baker and so many more. Colourful, communal, and oh-so-delicious, these bakeries are the ultimate post-pandemic pick-me-up. So, why all the bakeries? Bakeries have long been a staple of society, especially so in European culture; and maybe the cultural diversion is finally catching up to the Dublin lifestyle. Maybe it’s natural because our butter and flour have always been high quality. Maybe it’s social media creating a huge market for party-shaped little treats. Ultimately, who cares? Just enjoy the buttery goodness.
It’s that time of year again—wild garlic season! Grab your baskets and head out to St. Anne’s Park, Deer Park, Killiney Hill or anywhere else you fancy. Forraging is some of the best craic you can have and is a must-try experience these days (thanks, pandemic!). With everyone sharing the wild garlic foraged hauls on TikTok there’s never been a better time to get outside and hunt for some garlicky goodness.
Nut Butter’s March Madness deal slaps. Every Monday and Friday from 15:00 to 17:00, all bowls are just €10. Yep, you heard that right! It’s veggie galore! The rainbow pad Thai is a colourful tower of goodness featuring pickled cabbage, carrot ribbons, pak choi, cucumber, and toasted peanuts atop coconut and peanut-scented brown rice. Jackfruit adds a hint of smokiness to the mix. So, swing by and treat yourself to some nutty goodness for a tenner. It’s a solid deal if you’re near any of their locations.
Since 1824, The Shelbourne has been a hub for poets, princesses, Hitler relatives and everyone in between. With two hundred years of rich history, this place is steeped in stories. It was a Tipperary man named Martin Burke who had the idea of opening a grand and fashionable hotel in one of the city’s most exclusive neighbourhoods. In 1824, he leased three townhouses (Number 27, 28 and 29) on the edge of St. Stephen’s Green and set out to offer the best of hospitality to the most demanding guests. Now, because of him, we have the ultimate place to take your ma for afternoon tea. Here’s to two centuries of luxury and charm and many more to come!
We love Bread 41, pistachio anything, and the maritozzi trend. So, obviously, we are all over this new weekend’s special pistachio maritozzi from Bread 41. This Italian delight is a brioche dream come true, filled with pistachio cream and blackcurrant jam. It’s indulgence at its finest, and it’s available every weekend starting at 10:30. This will be one of those buns you’ll see everywhere, mark my words.
Two wine families crashed the whiskey scene. What was the result? Gold Spot Generations Edition. This limited whiskey, aged for thirteen years, got cosy in Italian wine casks, bringing back flavours like dark fruits and berries. It’s like Irish whiskey went on a wild Italian vacation and returned with a whole new attitude! As they have come to be known, Spot Whiskeys are cult classics with many aficionados, who regard them as the best among the IDL portfolio, so you know this will be a goodie.
