Veganuary where to eat out and what to order

Words: Shamim de Brún

With everything closed at eight o’clock and an ever-changing list of where is closed till the end of January, filtering by vegan can also appear like shooting yourself in the food. However, Veganuary is so popular that specialist restaurants are mostly open and taking reservations. So here’s a list of dependable, dedicated vegan eateries of Dublin for when you don’t fancy doing the dishes.

05

Sova Vegan Butchers

In the heart of Dublin 8, Sova Vegan Butchers have been a mecca for vegans for the past five years. Open for lunch and dinner Wednesday to Saturday, this spot is perfect for the hungry. Also available on Deliveroo with hearty portions and a flavour focused menu that will hit the spot. Try the kebab, and you will not be disappointed.

04

Greenshot

This vegan bakery makes the cheesiest toasties and iconic cinnamon roles. Greenshot is the perfect lunch spot if you’re adjacent to the city centre or they deliver via Deliveroo. Their No-Moo Meatball Marinara made with “mama’s special” marinara recipe, soy meatballs, roasted red onion, and a few greens is a hunger buster to devour.

03

Veginity

Veginity is one of the Northside’s best vegan eateries. It makes a full three-course treat-yourself dinner from Wednesday to Saturday and is renowned for its lunchtime pastries. Try the Paris Brown Mushroom Rolls, and you will become a Veginity evangelical.

02

Vish.Shop

Winner of Ireland’s best street food in 2019 Vish Shop is the vegan fish and chipper. Vish Shop lives on the corner of Blessington Street and Dorset Street and is open for taking away or has a few seats inside. As par for the course these days, you can also order online or by phone for delivery. The original Vish and Chips is a treat to behold, but the winner is the blackened cajun Vish burger.

01

Vegan Sandwich Co

The Vegan Sandwich company is famous for having the first vegan chicken fillet roll. Their sandwich list is the most varied, but their kebabs keep the customers coming back. Open for lunch and dinner all week, keeping with restrictions, online from their website or via Deliveroo.
