A new €1.8 million brewery has launched in Glasnevin. The families behind some of Dublin’s most beloved pubs have come together to back Changing Times Brewery, saying they hope to provide something fresh but still authentically Irish to consumers.
Tucked away in an industrial estate in the heart of Glasnevin, just a stone’s throw from the banks of the Royal Canal, something new is brewing. Publicans behind nine of Dublin’s most loved pubs, along with Cork publican Benny McCabe and brewer Shane Long, are behind the venture.
Willie Aherne of The Palace Bar on Fleet Street says their customers made it known that they were in the mood for change and suggested they should brew their own beers. He says this led to conversations with other publican families and that’s how the idea of Changing Times was born.
“Effectively, the concept for Changing Times Brewery was born over the pub counters. We look forward to giving our customers a taste of that something new, that change they have been looking for,”
– Willie Aherne, The Palace Bar
They have two beers on the lineup so far: the Daydreamer Lager (4.2% ABV) and After Hours Pale Ale (4.2% ABV).
Daydreamer Lager is a combination of pilsner and Vienna malt and is described as light but malty, with a background hoppy character and subtle notes of bread, biscuit, and honey.
After Hours is a hazy and light-coloured pale ale, with a hoppy, citrus aroma and tropical notes of pineapple and mango.
For now, the Changing Times brews will be stocked in its founding members’ bars: The Palace, The Long Hall, The Swan, The Bankers, Arthur Maynes in Donnybrook, Devitts, Doheny & Nesbitts, Sheehans, Lemon & Duke, The Bridge 1859, The Blackrock, The Bank, McSorleys, Darkey Kelly’s, and The Ferryman. The hope is for the products to expand into additional pubs in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out.
