Murphy’s Irish discount

Murphy’s Ice Cream on Wicklow Street offers a 10% discount if you buy it trí Ghaeilge. The discount is running for this week only according to a Murphy’s representative.

Sean and Kieran Murphy started Murphy’s Ice Cream in Dingle, Co. Kerry in 2000. Their uachtar reoite is produced in the Gaeltacht area of Corca Dhuibhne, a place with special linguistic status, where the Irish language is still spoken daily.

There’s no sign advertising this discount, but Twitter is awash with grá for it after this tweet:

Here’s a cheat sheet to ordering and ice cream as Gaeilge if you need a refresher:
“ba mhaith liom uachtar reoite le do thoil”, which translates to “I would like an ice cream please”. You can insert a flavour, fanile (vanilla)or a size, beag (small) after uachtar reoite if you want to get fancy with it.

Murphy’s is an ice cream parlour that offers a lovely selection of Irish ice creams along with coffee, chocolate, and cakes. Creams have been made naturally, locally and truthfully in Dingle since 2000. Their flavours vary from Dingle Gin and Irish Coffee to Butterscotch and beyond.

The Murphy brothers take pride in using eggs, cream, sugar and milk from rare breed Kerry cows to create a decadent dessert. After 20 years in business, their brown bread ice cream is a firm favourite. However, Dingle gin is fast gaining popularity. Try the Dingle sea salt, which is made with their own salt — Dingle seawater is collected at Bin Ban beach, filtered, and boiled down to make the salt. The Brown Bread and Sea Salt combination is unrivalled.

You can also get vegan ice cream if dairy isn’t your thing!
