New restaurant landing on Camden Street

Words: Shamim de Brún

Mama Yo, a new Camden Street restaurant serving high-class Chinese food, will open on Valentine’s Day.

Press Up Hospitality Group has announced its latest addition to the city, Mama Yo. It will be a Chinese restaurant that promises “traditional Chinese recipes with a contemporary twist”. This is the 36th dining venue from Press Up and its first new launch in more than 12 months.

Mama Yo

Opening on February 14th, Press Up aims to respect the techniques, flavours, and rich history of Chinese cuisine while adding a dose of modernity.

The menu has been created with sharing in mind and includes small plates. Menu items include tea-smoked BBQ ribs, pork char siu bun, soup dumplings, and house-made wontons. Their signature dish is slated to be Beijing Roast Duck, which dates back over 1,000 years. In addition, diners can expect beef short rib, lemon chicken, sweet and sour with caramelised pineapple, and salt and pepper tofu for mains.

The cocktails are made following the five pillars of Chinese cuisine: spicy, salty, sour, sweet and bitter. The kitchen will be handled by a team of 14, including Head Chef Daming Lu. Daming Lu trained in a five-star hotel in China. He has been in Ireland for 20 years and has worked for several restaurants. Including Hang Dai, also on Camden Street.

General Manager Kathy Li, who is originally from Shenyang in China, said of the upcoming opening: “The combination of high quality, contemporary Chinese cuisine, brilliant drinks, warm service, and a spectacular venue is truly unique, and exciting addition to Dublin’s thriving food scene. I envision and am certain that Mama Yo will provide any guest with an unforgettable experience.”

The reservations book is live on the restaurant’s website and Open Table, taking bookings from February 14th.
